Ellie Haines despairs of her family. Her younger brother, Charlie, is Irritating Beyond Belief and is so desperate to be on TV he's tried everything from sending films of his hamster to Springwatch to advising Mum on How to Look Good Naked (urgh!). Mum appears to be going through some kind of midlife crisis, which is Mortifying in the Extreme, and Dad only ever talks about work, goes to work, or sleeps (to recover from work). The only bright spots in Ellie's life are her new kitten and her best mate, Mads. Somehow Mads persuades Ellie to apply for the junior version of the Great British Cake Off, but there's one small problem . . . Ellie can't cook. Luckily new boy at school Ted can and, much to Mads's dismay, he and Ellie hit it off like a cake on fire!
